We all look forward to the relaxed summer months - light clothing, balmy summer evenings in the garden, going for a bike ride: simply enjoying life! Sounds perfect - if it weren't for those oppressively hot nights when you toss and turn sleeplessly in bed. Although we generally need less sleep in summer (our body produces lower levels of the sleep hormone melatonin when it's light), it's not possible to do without it. With our sleep tips for the summer, you are perfectly prepared for the hot nights.
Here in the Black Forest (811 metres above sea level), we are lucky that the nights usually stay relatively cool and we can therefore sleep in a relaxed manner. Unfortunately, due to lack of space, we cannot invite you all to spend the summer with us and have therefore put together some sleeping tips for you on the subject of ‘Sleeping in the heat’.

Which materials are particularly suitable for summer?
The most important aspect of bedroom textiles in summer is breathability. This means that sheets, bed linen, duvet covers and sleepwear made of cotton are the most important. This natural fibre is absorbent, cooling and breathable.
There are now also high-quality synthetic fibres (e.g. TENCEL™ Lyocell/Lyocell), which are made from breathable and climate-regulating materials. The products made with these fibres score points for their functionality: moisture and warmth are stored and transported to the outside during the day.
There are many summer and winter versions of duvets on the market: the fluffy winter duvet can be unbuttoned in half and turned into an airy summer duvet. Climate-regulating mattress covers are recommended for the mattress, which protect the mattress and at the same time ensure a balanced sleeping climate.
Under no circumstances should you sleep completely unclothed and without a blanket.
Every person loses up to ½ litre of fluid per night, which can easily lead to colds as you cool down during sleep.
Nothing worse than a summer cold ... So at least use a light sheet or our breathable Bella Donna summer duvet, for example.
Tips for a good bedroom climate in hot weather
- Keep windows closed during the day and darken them with shutters or curtains
- Ventilate well for 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening, if possible with a draught if the air is very dry Hang up damp laundry in the room - saves electricity and protects the laundry and the environment at the same time Keep annoying mosquitoes & co. away with window screens from specialist retailers
- These screens are also available against pollen count ⇒ very helpful
Other tips:
- No heavy meals after 7.00 pm
- Take a lukewarm shower - never cold, otherwise you will get fit again!
- Don't set waterbeds too cold when you go to sleep despite the heat
- A hot water bottle with cold water works wonders
