The base for a good night's sleep

Formesse products are designed to promote good sleep on many levels.

From the optimal support of the bed system and mattress functions, to the pleasure of a great fit and radiant colours, to the knowledge that a solid family business with honest values stands behind Formesse products.

We are committed to our regional textile industry in order to produce to high standards, create jobs and maintain the textile industry in Germany. However, we also face up to the challenges along the entire value chain and do our best to keep improving.

Our products accompany their users for a long time and hopefully along with a really good feeling, too!

  • Slow

High-quality and durable bedroom textiles - that's what the Formesse brand stands for.

We see our company philosophy confirmed in the SLOW movement. We support the appreciative & slow consumption of high-quality products with a long life cycle.

In other words, we do the opposite of fast fashion, where the aim is to offer the latest and constantly changing fashion trends, usually of poor quality, at the lowest possible prices.

We want our products to accompany people for a long time!

  • Made in Germany

As a highly developed industrialised country, Germany has high requirements in terms of social standards, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, etc.

Many textile companies relocate their production to less developed countries in order to save costs. We consider these standards to be an important achievement that encourages good management and great efficiency using modern technology.

Sure, we can't compete with the low-cost suppliers in the industry. But that is not our aim either.

  • Ökotex

People spend about a third of their lives sleeping. With an average lifespan of 80 years, that's around 27 years of close skin contact with fitted sheet.

We want this contact to be harmless to human health and since 1997 we have only worked with ingredients that are produced in accordance with the European Chemicals Regulation REACH and are tested and certified in accordance with the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Hohenstein Institute, test number: 97.0.7666,

  • ClimatePartner

As a responsible company, we must also do our part to limit global warming. We have therefore planned, initiated or already implemented a large number of measures to reduce our emissions.

We have climate-certified our company and our products. This means that Formesse offsets all (still) unavoidable emissions through the financial contribution of various certified climate protection projects.

The calculation of our ‘CO2 footprint’ is carried out by ClimatePartner Deutschland GmbH.

Sustainable product packaging

In April 2022, we produced some of our products in new packaging for the first time. We have since converted a large proportion of our products to the new packaging.

The goals:

  • eliminate polybags (plastic)
  • as little packaging as possible (save resources, avoid waste)
  • as sustainable as possible (recycled & recyclable material, renewable raw materials)
  • as much product protection as necessary (protection against soiling and injury for the products)

On average, approx. 60% less CO2 emissions are produced compared to the old packaging with polybags (calculated by Climate Partner AG).

End of Life

Compared to cheaper, thinner and lower quality bed textiles, our products are very durable and will last for many years.

But accidents can always happen. Whether it's a small hole caused by foreign objects or other items of laundry in the washing machine, a child's experiment with scissors or a dog and cat having an extensive fight. And of course our products will also reach their ‘end of life’ at some point due to the wear and tear caused by the washing process and on the mattress (friction from the body, cosmetics, etc.).

We would like to give you a few tips on how to care for our products to maximise their lifespan, how to darn and sew them after accidents and how to use them for other purposes.

Quality in the production chain

Step 1: Cotton

  • The length of the cotton fibres: We only use particularly long or medium-length fibres. The longer the cotton fibre, the better.
  • Combed cotton: Here, husk residues and other impurities are removed and the fibres are aligned straight again.
  • Cotton twisted yarn: For the particularly tear-resistant, hard-wearing and pilling-free twisted yarn, particularly even and fine cotton yarns are first produced and then twisted together.

Step 1: Cotton

  • Compact yarn: In contrast to conventional yarn, the fibre ends are compactly incorporated/hidden in the thread. This means that there is no surface for pilling or breakage in the yarn.
  • Gassing: Gassing, in which protruding hairs are removed with a flame, makes the yarn even more uniform and also removes the last protruding fibre ends. It is precisely these protruding fibre ends that tend to form knots, known as pilling.

Step 2: Knitting

  • Knitting the fabrics in Germany
  • Customised knitting machines for outstanding knitting quality
  • Very fine, even knitting stitches
  • Use of a lot of yarn/twine for opaque, hard-wearing products
  • Use of ultra-fine, highly elastic and very tear-resistant elastane threads (max. 3%)
  • Optimum result in terms of elasticity and recovery thanks to the interplay of knit and elastane

Step 3: Finishing & Dying

  • Textile finishing in Germany
  • State-of-the-art technology that is gentle on fabrics and the environment
  • Particularly gentle treatment in the tube (centrefold quality feature)
  • High-quality dyes for very high colour fastness (wonderful colours even after many washes)
  • Partial addition of aloe vera and argan oil for special suppleness and colour brilliance
  • Partial mercerisation (better durability)

Step 4: Sewing

  • High-quality, durable branded rubber for the round waistband
  • Very high acceptance criteria for the quality of the seams and the fabric surface
  • Manual inspection of each individual sheet

Step 5: Storage and dispatch

  • Light/UV protection (fabric and colour protection)
  • Dust protection
  • High cleanliness standards & rules
