Ply yarn consists of two threads of single yarn that have been twisted together. Depending on its exact composition, ply yarn is approx. 20 percent more tear resistant and much more elastic than two single yarn strands together or one thicker strand of single yarn.
- Ply yarn and the products we make from it are much more uniform and have a softer, more pleasant feel.
- Ply yarn is more voluminous, meaning the finished products offer better coverage.
- Products made from ply yarn are more robust and abrasion resistant, enabling greater shape stability in the end product.
- Singeing (or gassing) any final protruding fibre ends gives fabric a greater sheen and reduces its tendency to pill (produce little balls on the fabric surface).
